Kris Sword - Ifugao, Philippines

  • $ 28000

The Kris Blade is traditionally an Indonesian/Javanese weapon with a distinct asymmetrical wavy blade.  Sometimes thought of as a spiritual object, the Kris resembles a cunning serpent with a bite just as sharp as a sword.  This is a Filipino version of the Kris blade.

During Team KIL's recent weapons expedition in the Philippines, we traveled back to Ifugao to visit Tuhon Rommel Tortal.  His walls are lined with a vast collection of swords and knives made by the Ifugao people; traditional Filipino blades, forged to look contemporary.  We brought some back for you.

-

These blades are individually forged by local Filipino bladesmiths.  They have a long and storied tradition of using salvaged materials and antiquated machines to create working agricultural blades that can also be used as weapons.  There may be slight imperfections in these blades that reflect this rustic jungle culture.  According to the craftsmen, these are not considered flaws because each blade is still capable of performing its intended function.

I was the lucky guy who got this beauty. It's really something in the hand. Very well balanced and lively. The blade angles forward a little less than 10 degrees. The handle feels FANTASTIC. It gives a very positive grip, looks ornate, and feels durable.

Simply outstanding. I hope you guys can import more of this type of thing. I feel privileged to have it in my small collection.
